Today, Ben will lead England for the first time in a Test series against South Africa.
The opening Test at Lord’s will be the fifth time Ben has faced South Africa in Test matches on home soil.
His previous appearances were all during the 2017 series.
In four Tests Ben scored 299 runs in 8 innings. The highlight being a Player of the Match performance in the third Test at the Kia Oval. England won the Test by 239 runs with Ben scoring a first innings 112 (4 sixes, 9 fours) off 153 balls.
As well as his century, Ben also scored two half centuries during the 2017 series. In the first Test at Lord’s, he scored 56. While Ben’s second half-century (58) came in the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford.
During the 2017 series Ben took 7 South African wickets. His best bowling analysis of 2-34 was returned in the second Test at Trent Bridge.
