24 Half-Centuries

It's now 24 half-centuries in Tests for Ben and this was one of his slowest. It was also the thirty-fourth time that Ben has scored 50 or more Test runs in his career.

At the start of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, England were looking to square the series against India.

Batting first England were 30-3 when Ben strode to the middle.

Ben was quick off the mark taking 12 off one over from Mohammed Siraj.

Facing Ravichandran Ashwin he then thumped the ball for six.

At lunch, Ben had scored 25 runs off 40 balls and together with Jonny Bairstow the pair had put on 44 runs, taking England to 74-3.

It took Ben another 74 balls to reach his half-century. He scored his twenty-fourth Test 50 in style, with a reverse sweep for 4 off Axar Patel.

Ashwin has dismissed Ben on 9 occasions in India. This time he saw Ashwin off, only to fall to the bowling of Washington Sundar.

After a patient 121 ball 55, Washington Sundar bowled a straight one. Ben misread the delivery and was out LBW with England on 121.

England were dismissed for 205. At close of play on the first day India were on 12-1.
